Curriculum

• The course work consists of “Group of Core Courses” and “Group of Courses for Career Development and Improvement of Skills”.
• In the research work, students conduct pre-research and then research for a master’s thesis in the laboratory to which they belong during their master’s studies. During the 4-year doctoral studies/latter doctoral studies, students conduct research for their doctoral thesis and participate in a multidisciplinary collaborative research project.
• In addition, they can participate in various programs including overseas/domestic internships and networking events to partner with organizations that wish to recruit excellent researchers as well as the Reiwa Konoe Juku*.

*Reiwa Konoe Juku: Lectures are provided by internationally recognized researchers who have graduated from or have a deep relationship with Kyoto University. Although this is a program for students outside of the university, MIP students also can participate.

Other requirements for program completion

• Students are required to continue to participate in Graduate Courses for Integrated Research Training after they have obtained the credits required for completion of the Course.
• Students are required to participate in either an Interdisciplinary Joint Research project or an overseas or domestic internship.

For students who fulfill the requirements for completion of the program in addition to fulfill the requirements for completing their department, a statement certifying the completion of the Graduate Program for Medical Innovation will be added to the student’s diploma.

Group of Core Courses

The Group of Core Courses consists of the Graduate Courses for Integrated Research Training and the Core Medical Education Courses.
The Graduate Courses for Integrated Research Training provide colloquium-style lectures and seminars in English in different fields. All MIP students can participate in these classes regardless of the Graduate School to which they belong. 
In the Core Medical Education Courses, students aim to acquire the systematic knowledge and ideas of basic medicine. Students can choose classes depending on their academic background.

These courses show students various career paths that have not been covered by conventional medical education. To help students acquire the knowledge and ideas required for becoming next-generation innovators, lecturers are invited from external partner organizations and companies. Students who take these courses will choose classes provided by the Graduate School of Medicine.
Each course consists of a seminar (4 credits) and a practicum (2 credits), and students will choose from the courses listed below. They are required to continue participating in the course activities after obtaining the credits required for completion of the course.

Core Medical Education Courses

Students who take these courses will choose classes provided by the Master’s Course in Medical Science depending on their academic background.

• Student who have taken classes in “Core Medical Education Courses” or their equivalent may be exempt from “Core Medical Education Courses”.
• In principle, students are required to take these courses in the first year (or in the third year for students who transferred to the latter doctoral course).
• If you wish to take these courses, please check the syllabus and register via the KULASIS.
• Some courses start early so be sure to check the schedule on the above website.
• The detailed course schedule will be available on the website of the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine before the beginning of each semester.
